Halloween should be filled with candy and laughter; not tears and breakdowns. Sensory overload gets very real on a holiday for those who don’t love costumes, loud music, or lights. I know this firsthand; when H was little, he was not the little boy in a mask with pajama bottoms running around Target. At age 2, it got very real when we went shopping for his first nursery school “trick or treat parade.” He was very overwhelmed, cried that the outfits were “too itchy”, too scary, and, lady, you can forget a mask or a hat of any kind. This left me scrambling for ideas. That year, he wore a Dallas Mavericks jersey, and we told him if anyone asked, his name was “Dirk”. Thank goodness the Mavs were pretty hot that year. Over the years, he has learned to love some costumes, while being extremely overwhelmed by others. The past few years, he has chosen to wear only a mask or face paint, with clothing as his costume. Last year, he literally wore shorts, a button-up, and the name tag “Dr. Venkman” from Ghostbusters. Wins come in all shapes and sizes in this house. As a family, we have never lived in a trick-or-treating neighborhood. We have always stuck to ringing the bells of a few (already notified) neighbors and our church’s Trunk or Treat. Now that H is in his teens, we have started a tradition of hosting an annual Halloween Party. It has greatly enriched our lives, filling a void that I never knew we had. Spending time with the ones you love should be all treats! https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/2fcf4dc2-8521-4cb8-949e-b49eb41942bc/Tips+for+Halloween.png Blog - Tricky Treating - Make it stand out Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference. https://www.pebblingminds.com/home daily 1.0 2026-09-10 https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/7b7bd625-838f-476f-a136-4841774f3aef/All+Things+Fall.png https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/ba7d554c-c5ea-4b6b-b9d5-f3ba5a2b5da4/Things+to+Do+%281%29.png https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/cb82f2fa-8f72-41f2-8f10-5bf446b8638f/Things+to+Do.png https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/0e922b69-18d4-41c9-be5b-cd422f4da789/Things+to+Do+%283%29.png https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/1790469457137-LSWVS8MH2OJ7HZ3906WI/unsplash-image-qYsmxkxZtbM.jpg https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/2fcf4dc2-8521-4cb8-949e-b49eb41942bc/Tips+for+Halloween.png https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/af08f289-561c-4101-ab27-771765566609/Things+to+Do+%285%29.png https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/b6d51733-9669-402a-a91a-b9ebc84b603c/Penguin+cub+Cartoon+Character+Logo+%28300+x+300+px%29.png https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/f43c4b78-546f-461f-a81e-1386f7ca1bc6/Candy+Swaps.png https://www.pebblingminds.com/appointments daily 0.75 2026-09-10 https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/1780674520.760981-HKOFFJCZLFPIKKMYCYSU/imgg-gg3p-BCIBB-75d64898.png https://www.pebblingminds.com/about-6j27z daily 0.75 2026-09-11 https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/51fbfca1-bc6a-4787-acb7-f183e57aa53b/IMG_3002.jpg https://www.pebblingminds.com/services-1-1 daily 0.75 2026-10-11 https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/1791679266865-MVWOGOJ5DJEZVLNZMPPG/unsplash-image-JCmpGtemQtc.jpg https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/3ed203ac-4172-42bf-8f05-b87c5a0abcb8/imgg-7bj-0munf2q2.png https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/51fbfca1-bc6a-4787-acb7-f183e57aa53b/IMG_3002.jpg https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/79b0e5bd-9a90-42ed-adfc-912717aa6d58/Add+a+heading+%283%29.png https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/8a2a4e49-2650-4bb6-ae85-9bb0e4ae9be9/penguintracks.png https://www.pebblingminds.com/picky-eaters daily 0.75 2026-09-12 https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/1792029073890-DLJ0QIIQLMTI1HU9MBSS/unsplash-image-JCmpGtemQtc.jpg https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/b6d51733-9669-402a-a91a-b9ebc84b603c/Penguin+cub+Cartoon+Character+Logo+%28300+x+300+px%29.png https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/d9089220-f9d0-41dd-b853-874338b9bec7/imgg-3ns-d8dkhze1.png https://www.pebblingminds.com/sensory-tools daily 0.75 2026-09-25 https://www.pebblingminds.com/family-spotlight daily 0.75 2026-09-25 https://www.pebblingminds.com/new-page daily 0.75 2026-10-12 https://www.pebblingminds.com/new-page-1 daily 0.75 2026-10-12 https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/1791856918086-EFKKGB10PR0OCTN56WHP/unsplash-image-JCmpGtemQtc.jpg https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/8a2a4e49-2650-4bb6-ae85-9bb0e4ae9be9/penguintracks.png https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/68c5da98-52b0-4f6a-bc66-37ba3b4c595b/glossarylogo+x++%282%29.png https://www.pebblingminds.com/store daily 0.75 https://www.pebblingminds.com/store/p/clean-eating-spooky-treats monthly 0.5 2026-10-10 https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6aa1fdb56212a618961fc1ff/6210bc9d-de94-4f0e-95fb-e574aca9b042/Spooky+Clean+Eating+Treats.jpg Store - Clean Eating Spooky Treats - Spooky Clean Eating Treats.jpg
